Curriculum Strength and Advanced Testing: Do They Matter?
I was speaking with a mother of a student that is prospective. She raised concerns about our evaluation of rigor and AP/IB/SAT Subject tests. These concerns have recently show up more often in a blog so I thought it would be fitting royal vegas login to address it. Perhaps it’s because AP tests are coming quickly and pupils are beginning to question it to take the tests if it is worth.
First, let’s address rigor. The general inquiry seems to basically boil right down to the:
Are admission counselors capable objectively and fairly evaluate the curriculum strength of each and every student?
In an expressed term, YES. At USC, we’ve among the biggest, if perhaps not the admission staff that is largest of any personal university in the united states. Each member is assigned up to a domestic or region that is international or both. We take pride in looking after our regions. Relationships are forged and maintained with high school counselors, parents and prospective pupils. The target is to have comprehensive and detail by detail understanding of our territory. We are conscious of exactly what an application that is competitive like within its appropriate context. Eventually, it is possible to give consideration to us as context specialists. Context is specially essential in our process. We realize that rigor appears vastly different and unique for every school. Access to scholastic and extracurricular tasks in each school that is high city, and area will vary.
It is got by me…rigor and context are important. Is practical. So now that I’ve taken all these advanced level courses, is it really beneficial to take the tests?
In another term, well the word that is same YES. You have place in so work that is much the advanced level material all 12 months. Have you thought to just take the test?! There are some other benefits that are potential the apparent monetary savings you could have if you had been to pass these tests. In essence, you can find yourself freeing some devices to simply just take in another minor or even a dual major. Trust me, if you put in the ongoing work now, the benefits will outweigh the expenses so much more.
Generally, if you get at the very least a 4 on any AP exam, or at minimum a 5 on any high level IB Exam; then you will end up able to transfer some credits into USC. For more information, please go to the USC Articulation site.
Finally, SAT Subject Tests, just what about those? Well, in short, these are typically not necessary to make an application for any program that is undergraduate USC. But, then go ahead and submit those scores to us if you happen to be taking them for another school and you receive a great score. We shall surely let them have a look.
Good luck on everyone else taking the AP and IB exams approaching. we wish this offers a number of you a little more inspiration!
